Gold prices climbed to a one-week high on Friday, October 9, 2026, as a softer US dollar and easing Treasury yields helped the precious metal recover from recent losses.

Spot gold rose 1.5% to $4,194.36 per ounce by 3:29 p.m. EDT, according to Reuters. The metal was heading for a weekly gain of approximately 1.3% after falling to a two-month low earlier in the week.

The recovery came as investors reassessed US interest rate expectations, inflation risks, and the outlook for the Federal Reserve.

Gold Prices Rebound After Sharp Weekly Volatility

Gold experienced significant price swings during the first full week of October. Earlier in the week, a stronger dollar and elevated US Treasury yields placed pressure on the metal.

On Wednesday, gold reached its lowest level since early August. However, buyers returned as market conditions improved.

By Friday afternoon, spot gold had climbed to $4,194.36 per ounce. Meanwhile, US gold futures for December delivery settled at $4,216.30.

The rebound highlighted renewed buying interest after the recent decline. Nevertheless, investors remain cautious about the next direction of monetary policy.

Why a Weaker US Dollar Supports Gold Prices

The US dollar plays an important role in global gold markets. Because gold is generally priced in dollars, changes in the currency can affect international demand.

When the dollar weakens, gold becomes less expensive for buyers using other currencies. As a result, demand may improve.

On Friday, the dollar’s recent rally lost momentum. This helped create a more favorable environment for gold.

However, the relationship is not always consistent. Inflation expectations, geopolitical risks, and investment flows can also influence gold prices.

US Treasury Yields Ease and Reduce Pressure on Gold

US Treasury yields are another major factor affecting the precious metal.

Gold does not pay interest. Therefore, rising bond yields can make interest-bearing assets more attractive compared with bullion.

Conversely, falling yields may reduce the opportunity cost of holding gold.

During the week, elevated Treasury yields contributed to gold’s earlier weakness. However, yields retreated from recent highs, providing some relief for the metal.

Why Real Yields Matter for Gold

Real yields represent bond returns after accounting for expected inflation. They are particularly important when analyzing gold’s long-term performance.

Higher real yields can increase the relative appeal of bonds. Meanwhile, lower real yields may support demand for non-yielding assets such as gold.

Still, real yields are only one part of the picture. Central bank purchases, currency movements, and financial uncertainty can sometimes offset their influence.

Federal Reserve Interest Rate Outlook Remains Uncertain

Despite Friday’s recovery, the Federal Reserve remains a major source of uncertainty for gold investors.

Persistent inflation concerns have kept the possibility of additional interest rate increases in focus.

According to CME FedWatch probabilities cited by Reuters on October 9, traders assigned approximately a 19% probability to an October rate hike.

Markets also priced an 84% probability of at least one quarter-percentage-point increase by December.

These estimates reflect market expectations at that time. They can change quickly as new economic information becomes available.

Higher interest rates could strengthen the dollar and support bond yields. In turn, this may limit gold’s upside.

Gold Finds Buying Interest Near $4,000

The recent rebound also drew attention to the psychologically important $4,000-per-ounce region.

After gold’s sharp decline, some investors viewed lower prices as a potential buying opportunity.

Reuters reported that bargain hunting contributed to Friday’s recovery, with analysts highlighting emerging support around the $4,000 area.

However, a potential support zone is not a guaranteed price floor. Gold could still face renewed selling pressure if yields or the dollar rise again.

Silver and Other Precious Metals Also Advance

Gold was not the only precious metal to gain on Friday.

According to Reuters, silver rose approximately 2.4% to $60.77 per ounce. Platinum advanced 3.1% to $1,685.64, while palladium gained 2.1% to $1,146.39.

These gains reflected a broader recovery across parts of the precious metals market.

Nevertheless, platinum and palladium remained on track for weekly losses, showing that the rebound was not equally strong across all metals.

What Could Move Gold Prices Next?

Investors will closely monitor several important developments in the coming sessions.

    1. US Inflation Data

Upcoming inflation figures could influence expectations for Federal Reserve policy. Stronger inflation may reinforce concerns about higher interest rates.

    2. Treasury Yield Movements

A renewed increase in Treasury yields could pressure gold. On the other hand, further declines may help support the recovery.

    3. US Dollar Performance

Dollar strength remains a key variable for international gold demand. Traders will watch whether the currency resumes its rally or continues to weaken.

    4. Central Bank Demand

Official-sector gold purchases may continue to provide an important source of underlying demand. However, buying activity can vary over time.

Gold Price Outlook: Can the Recovery Continue?

Gold’s recovery to a one-week high suggests that buyers have returned after the recent selloff.

However, the outlook remains mixed. A softer dollar and lower Treasury yields provide support, while potential Federal Reserve tightening creates uncertainty.

The $4,000 region remains an important area to monitor following the recent decline. Meanwhile, sustained gains would require continued buying interest and a supportive macroeconomic environment.

Rather than relying on a single price target, investors may benefit from monitoring inflation, real yields, currency movements, and central bank policy together.

    Final Thoughts

Gold prices rebounded sharply on October 9, reaching a one-week high near $4,194 per ounce as the dollar and Treasury yields eased.

The move offered relief after a volatile week. Nevertheless, uncertainty surrounding inflation and Federal Reserve policy remains an important challenge.

For now, the relationship between gold, US Treasury yields, and the dollar will remain central to the market’s next move.
