Global Stocks Rally as AI Optimism Returns and Oil Falls Below $100

Global stock markets moved higher on Tuesday as renewed enthusiasm for artificial intelligence lifted technology shares, while oil prices fell below $100 per barrel amid signs that Middle East supply conditions could improve.

The combination of stronger technology stocks, lower oil prices and easing U.S. Treasury yields helped improve investor sentiment across global markets.

    AI Optimism Lifts Global Stocks

Artificial intelligence returned to the center of market attention after strong gains in major technology companies revived enthusiasm for the sector.

Meta Platforms shares surged more than 11% on Monday, marking the company’s biggest one-day gain since April 2024, as investors responded positively to the early popularity of its Muse AI assistant.

The rally spread across AI-linked and semiconductor stocks, helping support broader equity markets.

In Europe, the STOXX 600 gained around 0.5% on Tuesday after advancing roughly 1% in the previous session, with semiconductor companies among the strongest performers.

    AMD Reaches $1 Trillion Valuation

Advanced Micro Devices was another major beneficiary of renewed enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence.

AMD shares surged nearly 10% on Monday, pushing the chipmaker’s market capitalization to approximately $1 trillion.

Other semiconductor companies also recorded strong gains, highlighting renewed investor appetite for businesses exposed to the expansion of AI infrastructure.

The latest rally comes after a period of uncertainty surrounding AI-related stocks and concerns about the enormous amounts of capital being invested in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

    Oil Falls Below $100

Energy markets moved sharply in the opposite direction.

Brent crude fell as much as 3% during Tuesday’s session before recovering partially to around $97.60 per barrel.

The decline followed signs that oil supply conditions in the Middle East could improve.

A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States eases military pressure and lifts its blockade on Iranian ports.

Saudi Arabia has also restarted operations at its East-West Pipeline, according to sources cited by Reuters, potentially providing another route for crude exports through the Red Sea.

Lower Oil Prices Ease Inflation Concerns

The decline in crude oil could have broader implications for financial markets.

Elevated energy prices can contribute to inflation, potentially encouraging central banks to maintain tighter monetary policy for longer.

A sustained decline in oil prices could therefore reduce some inflation pressure, although investors continue to expect restrictive monetary policy from major central banks.

    US Treasury Yields Move Lower

Bond markets also reacted to the decline in oil prices.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury fell approximately three basis points to around 4.93%, moving further below the psychologically important 5% level.

Lower Treasury yields can provide support for growth and technology stocks because they reduce the discount rate investors use when valuing future corporate earnings.

The U.S. dollar also eased from a seven-week high against a basket of major currencies.

    Federal Reserve Remains in Focus

Despite improving market sentiment, monetary policy remains an important risk for investors.

The Federal Reserve raised interest rates last week and indicated that its fight against inflation is not finished, leaving the possibility of additional monetary tightening on the table.

Investors are therefore closely monitoring economic data and comments from Federal Reserve officials for clues about the next move in U.S. interest rates.

Trump-Xi Meeting Could Be the Next Catalyst

Markets are also turning their attention toward an expected meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week.

Investors will be watching for signs of progress on trade relations and potential cooperation or dialogue surrounding artificial intelligence.

Any development that reduces uncertainty between the world’s two largest economies could influence global stocks, currencies and commodity markets.

    What Investors Are Watching Next

Several major themes could determine the next direction for global markets.

Investors will be watching whether the AI-driven technology rally can continue, whether Brent crude remains below $100, and whether geopolitical developments lead to further improvements in Middle East energy supply.

Federal Reserve policy and the upcoming U.S.-China discussions could also become important catalysts.

For now, renewed AI optimism and lower oil prices have provided a fresh boost to global risk sentiment.
