Gold Prices Rebound Above $4,150 as Dollar and Treasury Yields Fall

October 15, 2026 — Gold prices rebounded more than 1% on Thursday as a weaker US dollar and falling Treasury yields helped the precious metal recover from a one-week low. Investors continued to evaluate stronger-than-expected US inflation data and its implications for Federal Reserve monetary policy.

Spot gold gained 1.3% to $4,156.52 per ounce as of 9:30 a.m. EDT, according to Reuters. US gold futures for December delivery advanced 1.7% to $4,177.80 per ounce.

The recovery followed three consecutive sessions of losses, highlighting the sensitivity of gold prices to movements in currencies, government bond yields, and interest rate expectations.

Why Are Gold Prices Rising Today?

Gold’s rebound was supported by a combination of declining US Treasury yields and a softer dollar.

The US dollar fell approximately 0.5% during the session, while the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield reached a three-week low.

These developments helped improve the appeal of gold despite concerns about persistent inflation.

Gold is priced in US dollars, meaning a weaker greenback can make bullion more affordable for investors using other currencies.

At the same time, declining bond yields reduce the opportunity cost of holding gold, an asset that does not generate interest income.

US Inflation Data Complicates the Federal Reserve Outlook

The rebound came despite recent US economic reports showing renewed inflationary pressure.

September consumer prices accelerated, partly because of rising gasoline costs. Producer prices also recorded their largest increase in approximately four and a half years, indicating broader cost pressures across the economy.

These developments initially increased expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates again in October.

Higher interest rates typically create challenges for gold because they can increase the attractiveness of interest-bearing assets and support the US dollar.

However, market expectations moderated following comments from Federal Reserve officials suggesting that an immediate rate increase might not be necessary.

Fed Rate Hike Probability Remains Below 30%

According to Reuters, traders were pricing in approximately a 29% probability of a Federal Reserve interest rate increase later in October, based on CME FedWatch data cited in its October 15 report.

Comments from San Francisco Federal Reserve President Mary Daly and Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman helped temper expectations of an immediate rate hike.

Investors are also watching upcoming remarks from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh for additional clues about the central bank’s policy outlook.

Any meaningful change in interest rate expectations could influence both the US dollar and gold prices.

US Dollar Weakens as Treasury Yields Decline

The US dollar retreated after reaching an 18-month high in the previous session.

Lower Treasury yields weighed on the greenback as investors reassessed the outlook for monetary policy and broader financial market risks.

The dollar’s retreat helped support gold and allowed several major currencies to recover against the US currency.

For XAU/USD traders, the relationship between the dollar and Treasury yields remains particularly important because both can influence short-term price movements.

What Does the Gold Rebound Mean for XAU/USD Traders?

The latest recovery highlights several important factors that gold traders should continue monitoring.

    • US Dollar Index (DXY): Continued dollar weakness could provide additional support for gold.
    • US Treasury Yields: Falling nominal and real yields may improve the attractiveness of non-yielding assets.
    • Federal Reserve Expectations: Changes in interest rate probabilities could increase market volatility.
    • Inflation Data: Stronger inflation readings may complicate the outlook for future monetary policy.
    • Market Sentiment: Economic uncertainty and demand for defensive assets can influence precious metal prices.

Although the rebound suggests renewed buying interest, traders should avoid interpreting a single positive session as confirmation of a sustained bullish trend.

Gold Price Outlook: Can XAU/USD Extend Its Recovery?

Gold’s near-term direction will likely depend on whether the US dollar and Treasury yields continue declining.

If bond yields remain under pressure and expectations of additional Federal Reserve tightening ease, the precious metal could attract further investor interest.

However, stronger economic data or more hawkish Federal Reserve commentary could strengthen the dollar and create renewed pressure on gold.

Traders should also monitor upcoming US economic releases, central bank communications, and broader risk sentiment.

Price volatility may remain elevated as investors adjust their expectations for the next Federal Reserve policy decision.

Silver and Other Precious Metals Also Gain

The recovery extended beyond gold, with several other precious metals recording gains.

According to Reuters, spot silver advanced 2.3% to approximately $56.90 per ounce, while platinum rose 0.4% to $1,613.75 and palladium gained 3.2% to $1,129.20 during the reported session.

The broader advance suggests that changing currency and yield conditions were influencing the precious metals market.

    Final Thoughts

Gold’s October 15 rebound demonstrates how movements in the US dollar and Treasury yields can support bullion even when inflation data raises concerns about tighter monetary policy.

With Federal Reserve expectations still evolving, XAU/USD traders will remain focused on inflation, bond yields, and central bank commentary.
